CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The city recorded 57 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 coronavirus and four new deaths, Mayor Frank Jackson’s administration announced Friday.
The newly confirmed cases involved patients ranging in age from seven old to their 70s.
As of Friday, the total number of new cases confirmed in the city since March stood at 25,634, the city reported.
The deaths of 404 Clevelanders have been attributed to the coronavirus. The average age of those who died was 73 years old.
In addition, the health department has identified 1,755 probable cases. That figure, using an expanded definition from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, captures suspected cases where there is no confirmed test.
Cleveland had recorded a total of 27,389 cases as of Friday.
Those infected have ranged in age from less than 1 year old to more than 100 years old. The average age is 45 years old.
Six percent of those cases required hospitalization.
Fifty-four percent of the cases involve women. About 40% of all those infected are African American. About 28% are white. Other races account for 12% of the patients. Race is unknown for 18% of the cases.
The Cleveland Department of Public Health reports that 6,265 patients have been released from isolation, 70 more than on Friday.
Across the state, 1,806 additional coronavirus cases were reported on Friday. In its twice-weekly update for deaths, the Ohio Department of Health included an additional 209 COVID-19 fatalities.
To date, Ohio has now reported 986,740 cases, 51,438 hospitalizations and 17,871 deaths.
The Cuyahoga County Board of Health reported 73,063 cases of coronavirus had been tallied as of Friday, an increase of 106 from the previous day. The department reported a total of 1,612 deaths in its jurisdiction, the same total as the previous day. The numbers exclude cases from the city of Cleveland.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s tally on Friday reported 29,113,651 cases, up 60,679 from the previous day. The CDC recorded 527,301 deaths in the United States, an increase of 1,572 from the previous day. Those numbers tend to lag other reporting sites.
Johns Hopkins University of Medicine reported that as of Friday evening its tally showed 29,340,202 people had become infected with the coronavirus, an increase of 128,110 from the previous day. Its tally showed 530,606 deaths in the United States, an increase of 1,552 from the previous day.
