(.) — Pope Francis, who is still admitted to the Gemelli hospital in Rome after undergoing an abdominal operation on Wednesday, followed the Holy Mass this Sunday live on television and received the Eucharist, according to a statement from the Vatican spokesman, Matteo Bruni.
The pope “later went to the small chapel of the private apartment, where he gathered in prayer for the Angelus,” Brini said. “He then had lunch with those who are assisting him in these days of hospitalization in the private apartment (doctors, health assistant, nurses, assistants and personnel from the Gendarmerie Corps),” he added.
Bruni also said the pope “remains afebrile and hemodynamically stable.” The pope underwent “respiratory physiotherapy and continues to move,” Bruni added.
It is extremely rare for Pope Francis to miss the Angelus, but it is not the first time he has missed public appointments for medical reasons.
