DEAR DEIDRE: MY anxiety is ruining my life.

I’ve always been a worrier, but I started having attacks last March in the first lockdown. I’m a man of 34.

It feels like I’m having a heart attack, and I struggle to catch my breath.

My team and I are working safely from home but we are here to help you as always.

Coronavirus seems to be my main trigger – any conversation about it brings on a hot flush, and I’ve had attacks after dropping off my kids, aged seven and five, at school as I fear they’ll catch it.

During the third lockdown, I managed to control the attacks with breathing techniques and regular exercise.

But now we’re being encouraged to return to normality, they’re happening two or three times a day.

I’ve tried talking to my friends but they brush it off, saying everyone feels nervous right now.

DEIDRE SAYS: Contact Mind (mind.org.uk, 0300 123 3393), who can tell you about local support available. You can also try its online community Side By Side (sidebyside. mind.org.uk).

While it is good to let your friends know how you are feeling, it might help more to connect with others dealing with similar feelings.
