Life can be hectic at times and we all deserve a moment to check in with ourselves. Dec. 18 is a superb opportunity to do just that while learning new techniques called Buteyko Breathing to make life flow a little better. Buteyko Breathing teaches one to breathe slower, calmer and more effectively. Heather Berg, a yoga practitioner since 1990, will guide you throughout this journey at the Swinton Community Growing Project in Delray Beach (SCGP). SCGP is a permanent pop-up that grows organic food in the heart of Downtown Delray and offers educational workshops and community events in their garden.

Buteyko Breathing method is a clinically-proven, effective, natural, breath-retaining program that can help control stress and anxiety, asthma, sleep apnea and even enhance athletic performance. The science behind this technique is to decrease one’s respiration rate and focus on breathing solely through the nose. It uses a controlled pause following exhalation to train the respiratory system to take in less air and calm the breath.

The three-hour retreat guides participants on how to connect mind and body to breathe and be mindful of how one’s breathing affects the body. Berg will also offer a session of Hatha Yoga, one of the most popular types of yoga practiced. It is typically an umbrella term that focuses on breathing techniques paired with poses.

Classes are held outside with fresh air and part of the proceeds will go to SCGP to help them continue growing organic food.
