Wheeling Hospital is offering another form of rehabilitation for post-COVID patients, which also is effective for post-pneumonia patients.
In addition to its post-COVID outpatient rehabilitation, the hospital also is providing pulmonary rehabilitation for COVID and post-pneumonia patients.
Patients previously diagnosed with COVID-19 are potentially at risk for long-term respiratory complications. Possible complications may include shortness of breath, low blood oxygen saturation and respiratory failure. Early pulmonary rehabilitation is critical in improving physical outcomes and enhancing quality of life.
Through participation in the Pulmonary Rehab Program, post-COVID and post-pneumonia patients can improve and alleviate symptoms of labored breathing, relieve anxiety, preserve and recover respiratory function, and, ultimately, restore some sense of normalcy to their lives.
Jennifer Rose, RRT and Wheeling Hospital Pulmonary Rehabilitation program coordinator, has seen the many benefits this type of specialized therapy can provide to patients who suffer from these long-term respiratory complications.
“Pulmonary rehab is a supervised, comprehensive program that begins with a thorough patient assessment,” said Jennifer Rose, Wheeling Hospital’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation program coordinator.
“Our multidisciplinary staff includes respiratory therapists, nurses, physicians, and dieticians. An individual treatment plan is devised for each patient, which can include exercise training, nutrition counseling, health education, breathing exercises, and psychosocial support.”
The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is located in the Howard Long Wellness Center and offers treatment from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Those experiencing post-COVID and post-pneumonia symptoms and believe they may benefit from the program, should first contact their physician to begin the referral process. For more information on the Wheeling Hospital Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, call Rose at 304-243-3750.
