Rafael Nadal suffered an injury and will be between four and six weeks out of the circuit. The tennis player, who said he felt pain when breathing, has a stress crack in the third left costal arch.

“When I breathe and move It’s like I have a needle inside all the time. All I can say is that breathing is hard for me. When I try to breathe it is painful and very uncomfortable”, Nadal assured in a press conference after the defeat in the Indian Wells final against the American Taylor Fritz.

“It makes me feel a little dizzy because it’s painful. It is a type of pain that limits me a lot. It’s not just for the pain. I don’t feel very good because it affects my breathing, ”said the tennis player with the most Grand Slam wins in history, with 21 celebrations.

Nadal, former world number one, lost last Sunday to Fritz 6-3, 7-5 in the Indian Wells final and did not want the information about his health to tarnish the conquest of the American.

Rafael Nadal’s statement

Hello everyone, I wanted to announce that I have returned to Spain and I immediately went to visit my medical team to do the tests after the Indian Wells final that I played with discomfort.

As it turns out, I have a stress crack in one of my ribs and will be out for 4-6 weeks. This is not good news and I did not expect this. I am sunk and sad because after the start of the season I have had such a good time.

I reached a very important part of the year with very good feelings and good results. But hey, I’ve always had that fighting and overcoming spirit and what I will do is be patient and work hard after my recovery. Once again thank everyone for the support.
