Data Reflects Vaccine Disparity by Race, Ethnicity
The Illinois Department of Public Health’s COVID-19 Vaccine Administration Data webpage doesn’t tell the full story, but the data on that page indicates Kane County and the state as a whole are facing some of the same disparity in vaccination totals by race and ethnicity as the CDC is reporting throughout the United States.
Here are the pie-chart totals for Kane County, as shown in the IDPH graphics above, which report the numbers of fully vaccinated people, by race and ethnicity.
- White — 138,395 — 65.6%
- Latinx (Hispanic or Latino) — 39,200 — 18.9%
- Asian — 10,066 — 4.86%
- Black (African-American) — 6,539 — 3.16%
According to the IDPH chart, the remainder of the Kane County population that has been fully vaccinated includes 540 people listed as American Indian or Alaskan Native, 326 people listed as Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, 7,432 listed as Other, and 6,642 listed as Unknown.
Two weeks ago, the New York Times posted an article saying Black and Hispanic people across the United States have received a disproportionately smaller share of vaccinations, but state and federal data reveal that the country has made some progress toward vaccine parity.

Just 18 New Cases, But 2 More Deaths Thursday
Kane County recorded just 18 new cases of coronavirus today — very likely the lowest number since the early stages of the pandemic.
Sadly, that low number of new cases is contrasted by two additional deaths, a man in his 80s and a woman in her 90s, according to an Illinois Department of Public Health news release.
The Kane County totals to date stand at 59,088 positive cases and 788 deaths since the IDPH began recording data.
Kane County’s seven-day test positivity rate was unchanged, at 5.3%. That compares to the statewide seven-day rate of 2.5%.
According to the IDPH, 207,177 of Kane County’s 534,216 residents are fully vaccinated. That account for 38.78% of the total population.
The IDPH reports that 85.93% of Kane residents age 65 and older and 56.05 percent of Kane residents age 16 to 64 have had at least one shot of vaccine.
