Florida recorded 2,862 coronavirus cases and 30 deaths Monday, bringing the state’s death toll to 33,408.
The state has tracked 2,011,211 coronavirus cases over the year-long pandemic, according to the Florida Department of Health. The weekly case average up slightly to about 4,511 infections announced per day. The weekly death average dropped to about 64 deaths announced per day.
About 53,000 tests were processed Sunday, resulting in a daily positivity rate of 6.69 percent.
Vaccinations: As of Monday, 4,955,264 people in Florida have been vaccinated against COVID-19, an increase of 43,478 from the day prior.
More than half of those vaccinated have completed their vaccine series of one or two doses.
In Hillsborough County, 274,140 people have been vaccinated; in Pinellas, 246,203; in Polk, 134,887; in Manatee, 104,260; in Pasco, 111,696; in Hernando, 41,552; and in Citrus, 39,873.
Hospitalizations: About 2,900 people in Florida are hospitalized with a primary diagnosis of coronavirus, according to the Agency for Health Care Administration. About 650 of the patients are hospitalized in the Tampa Bay area.
About 25 percent of Florida’s hospital beds and intensive care unit beds were available as of Monday afternoon. In Tampa Bay, about 24 percent of hospital beds and ICU beds were available.
Cases that resulted in a hospitalization increased by 69 admissions.
Positivity: Florida’s average weekly positivity rate is about 7 percent, according to Johns Hopkins University. It is one of 19 states that fails to meet the World Health Organization recommendation for a 5 percent positivity rate or below before loosening movement restrictions.
When the positivity rate is too high, it can indicate there isn’t enough widespread testing to capture mild, asymptomatic and negative cases.
Local numbers: Tampa Bay added 453 coronavirus cases and eight deaths Monday.
Four deaths were recorded in Hillsborough County. Pinellas and Polk counties each recorded two deaths. Citrus, Hernando, Manatee and Pasco counties did not record any new deaths Monday.
Hillsborough leads the area with the highest average weekly positivity rate at 8 percent, followed by Hernando, Manatee, Pasco and Polk counties at 6 percent. Pinellas County had a 5 percent positivity rate on Monday and Citrus had a 4 percent rate.
As of the latest count, Hillsborough has 118,190 cases and 1,602 deaths; Pinellas has 70,382 cases and 1,544 deaths; Polk has 59,834 cases and 1,228 deaths; Manatee has 33,905 cases and 642 deaths; Pasco has 35,373 cases and 688 deaths; Hernando has 12,065 cases and 441 deaths; and Citrus has 10,159 cases and 423 deaths.
