The Oregon Health Authority announced 234 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday and no newly reported deaths.
These numbers are reported on the one-year anniversary of Oregon’s first COVID-19 death. Lifelong Oregonian Lynn Bryan, 70, died four days after he became the 15th person in the state to test positive for the coronavirus and the first in Multnomah County. The first case of COVID-19 in Oregon was only detected two weeks prior, on Feb. 28.
At the time, when public health officials were still trying to meticulously trace close contacts and transmission sources for Oregonians who contracted the disease, they struggled to do so for Bryan, an early sign of how difficult that task could prove.
“We would like to remember the 2,322 Oregonians who lost their lives and acknowledge the immense grief felt by their families, friends, coworkers and neighbors,” the state health authority said Sunday.
Where the new cases are by county: Baker (1), Benton (6), Clackamas (19), Columbia (3), Coos (11), Curry (7), Deschutes (15), Douglas (4), Grant (6), Jackson (21), Josephine (7), Lane (5), Linn (11), Marion (25), Morrow (1), Multnomah (46), Polk (3), Tillamook (1), Wasco (1), Washington (39) and Yamhill (2).
Who died: The state did not report any COVID-19 deaths on Sunday.
The prevalence of infections: On Sunday, the state reported 366 new positive tests out of 10,436 tests performed, equaling a 3.5% positivity rate.
Who’s in the hospital: The state reported 100 Oregonians with confirmed coronavirus infections were hospitalized Sunday, four fewer than Saturday. Of those, 21 coronavirus patients were in intensive care units, two fewer than Saturday.
Vaccines administered: Oregon has administered 1,322,013 first and second doses out of 1,575,705 received, which is about 83.9% of its supply. Oregon reported 20,045 newly administered doses, which includes 15,530 on Saturday and the remainder from previous days.
Since it began: Oregon has reported 159,617 confirmed or presumed infections and 2,322 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the nation. To date, the state has reported over 3,963,774 lab reports from tests.
