Nagpur: The importance of living with nature was highlighted in a recent study by Northwestern University, USA, scientists, published in Scientific Advance Journal in October.
This research, spanning two decades and utilizing DNA methylation-based epigenetic age, reveals that individuals residing near abundant greenery are biologically 2.5 years younger, on average, compared to those in less verdant environments.

Live in lap of nature for holistic wellbeing, stay healthy & be well

This revelation dovetails seamlessly with the ethos of National Naturopathy Day, celebrated annually in India on November 18. The theme for 2023, ‘Naturopathy for Holistic Health’, underscores the pivotal role of drug-free therapy in fostering positive mental and physical well-being. This day commemorates Mahatma Gandhi’s appointment as the chairman of the All India Nature Cure Foundation Trust on November 18, 1945, a historic deal aimed at making the benefits of Nature Cure accessible to all segments of society.
“When we think about staying healthy as we get older, we usually focus on things like eating well, exercising and getting enough sleep. However, research now shows that the environment we live in, specifically our community and access to green spaces, is also important for staying healthy as we age,” said Vilin Patil, a registered naturopath.
Naturopathy in India draws inspiration from ayurveda, emphasizing holistic wellness and natural healing. Naturopath Vandana Singh said that yoga and natural therapy can treat various human and societal diseases.
Naturpath Kanchan Hatwar practises Marma therapy. Hatwar’s research demonstrates how engaging with the 107 Marma points in our bodies, the energy centre regulating energy flow, can effectively address physical, mental, and emotional issues.
“In just two to three minutes, stimulating Marma points can alleviate a range of ailments, promoting overall health,” he claimed.
