People will start getting the second indigenous vaccine of Corona from August. The Union Health Ministry has decided to buy 30 crore doses of this vaccine being prepared by Hyderabad-based company Biological-E. For this an advance payment of Rs 1500 crore has been made to the company. The company will supply 300 million doses of the vaccine between August and December. In this way, six crore additional vaccines will be available to the people every month from August.
Phase III clinical trial
The Union Health Ministry issued a statement on Thursday, saying that the Kovid-19 vaccine of Biological-E is currently undergoing Phase III clinical trials. Better results were found in the first and second clinical trials. The vaccine has been developed by Biologicals-E, which is an RBD protein sub-unit vaccine. It is expected that its trials will be completed during June-July and regulatory approval will also be obtained and from August it will start using in vaccination.
The vaccine proposal of M/s Biologicals-E was recommended for approval by the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19 (Negvac) after discussion and scrutiny. The government said that this arrangement for procurement of M/s Biologicals-E vaccine is to encourage indigenous vaccine manufacturers. The government is also encouraging indigenous companies to develop vaccines.
The ministry said that the government has been supporting this vaccine from the pre-clinical stage to the third stage of study. Not only has the Department of Biotechnology provided financial assistance in the form of a grant of Rs 100 crore, but the Department is also entering into a technical partnership with Biologicals-E. Experiments and studies on vaccine-related animals were done through the Translational Institute of Health Science and Technology, Faridabad. Sputnik also manufactured in the country from July
The production of Sputnik vaccine will also start in the country in July before this vaccine arrives from August. It is expected that one to 1.5 crore doses of Sputnik vaccine will start being ready in July, while its import by Reddy Laboratory will also continue.
Pfizer vaccine will also be available
Meanwhile, Pfizer’s vaccine is also expected to be available in the country from July. Negotiations are on to buy 50 million vaccines from Pfizer and some of these vaccines are expected to start from July.
Serum Institute seeks permission to manufacture Sputnik
Meanwhile, CM Institute of India has sought license for production of Sputnik vaccine. Five companies are going to make Sputnik vaccine in the country. Now Serum Institute has also shown interest in this.
Trial of four more vaccines continues
Four vaccines are going through different stages of testing. These include Zydus Cadila’s DNA Vaccine Phase III, Genoa Biopharmaceuticals’ mRNA Vaccine and Bharat Biotech’s Nasal Vaccine Phase I clinical trials. In addition, Serum Institute of India has started Phase III Breezing Clinical Trials of the Recombinant Nanoparticle Vaccine developed by Novavax. Hopefully these vaccines will also be available soon.
