The OC Health Care Agency reported 248 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday, April 3, increasing the cumulative total in the county to 251,102 cases since tracking began.
There were 1,563 new infections reported in the last 14 days.
The seven additional deaths reported Saturday raised the total number of COVID-19 fatalities to 4,768.
The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates or gathered through the course of case investigations and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on March 22.
There were 109 people with confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Orange County hospitals on Saturday, down from 141 on March 31.
It’s the lowest number of confirmed cases since April 12, 2020.
Orange County moved into the orange (moderate) tier of the state’s four-tier framework on Wednesday. The daily case rate in the county per 100,000 residents reached 2.8, low enough to reach the orange tier status, according to a state update Tuesday. The testing positivity rate was 1.7%.
The California Department of Public Health’s vaccines dashboard said more than 1.56 million vaccines doses have been distributed in Orange County as of Friday. That was an increase of more than 38,000 from the previous daily report.
The county update said 3,385,447 tests have been given for the coronavirus since testing began locally, with at least 11,854 new tests since the previous report.
Of the cumulative 4,768 deaths reported from the virus, 1,048 were skilled nursing facility residents, 519 were in assisted living facilities, one was an O.C. jail inmate and 11 were listed as homeless.
The county’s breakdown of deaths by age is as follows:
- 17 and younger: 0.02% (1)
- 18-24: 0.21% (10)
- 25-34: 1.02% (49)
- 35-44: 2.2% (105)
- 45-54: 6.31% (302)
- 55-64: 14.03% (669, up 3)
- 65-74: 19.38% (926, up 2)
- 75-84: 24.78% (1,181, up 1)
- 85 and older: 32.06% (1,525, up 1)
It is estimated 243,222 people have recovered from the virus as of Saturday. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
